BAY CITY, Michigan — A federal lawsuit over allegations of misconduct against former Bay City police officers involved in a confrontation a bar in 2013 has been settled.
The lawsuit by Joshua Elzinga was dismissed last year due to the settlement, but specifics weren't released. The Bay City Times (http://bit.ly/1Sru6t0 ) obtained some details using a Freedom of Information Act request and reports Monday the city's insurance company paid $25,000.
Three officers were involved. The city says that the payout was for one ex-officer, since he was a city employee at the time and wasn't convicted of a crime. The money didn't cover another ex-officer. A third ex-officer was earlier dismissed from the lawsuit.
Elzinga said he was improperly detained and had his cellphone stolen by the officers. A police investigation confirmed allegations of misconduct.
