LITTLE ROCK, Arkansas — The unemployment rate in Arkansas fell by one-tenth of a percentage point in February to stand at 5.6 percent.

The Arkansas Department of Workforce Services said Friday that the number of Arkansans with a job rose by 9,800 from January's number to just more than 1.25 million while the number of jobless declined by 5,800 to 73,500.

The biggest gain was in government jobs with 5,200 additional workers as public schools re-opened following the winter break. The leisure and hospitality industry added 3,500 jobs and the professional and business services industry had 2,900 more workers during February.

The manufacturing industry had the greatest loss with 2,100 fewer jobs.

The national unemployment rate also fell, dropping from 5.7 percent in January to 5.5 percent in February.
