SEDONA, Arizona — Visitors will be welcomed back to Oak Creek Canyon this week after the popular recreation area was shut down for months.

The threat of flooding prompted the Coconino Nation Forest to close its land within the canyon in July. Recent wildfires left the canyon prone to flooding, and officials were worried about getting people out quickly.

Most developed recreation sites, vehicle pullouts, swimming holes and hiking trails will reopen Wednesday.

Forest officials say visitors should be mindful of occasional storms, and watch out for falling trees and rocks.
