PORTLAND, Oregon — A man shot and wounded by Portland police this month has been released from the hospital and is due in court Tuesday.
Michael Shawn Harrison faces charges of attempted first-degree assault, unlawful use of a weapon and burglary. Investigators say that on May 17, he broke into a woman's home, prompting her and her two children to hide in the basement. They managed to escape, and police say the 47-year-old Harrison charged toward two officers with a knife.
One officer fired a less-lethal shotgun, and the other fired her handgun. He suffered multiple gunshot wounds, as well as what police described as self-inflicted knife wounds.
Harrison was released from the hospital on Saturday and booked into the Multnomah County Jail. He's expected to be arraigned Tuesday.
Police say he was reportedly distraught over his pending divorce.
