MUSKOGEE, Oklahoma — A prosecutor says three Muskogee police officers were justified in a shooting that wounded a man earlier this month.

Muskogee County District Attorney Larry Moore says nothing should prevent Officers Chansey McMillan, Nick Ford and Jason Steele from returning to work. All three had been on paid leave since the July 9 shooting of Angel Cerda.

Authorities say McMillan shot Cerda in the legs and abdomen after Cerda allegedly lunged at the officers with a knife. Cerda was treated and released for his injuries and remains in the Muskogee County jail.

According to the Muskogee Phoenix ( ), the prosecutor praised McMillan for his response, noting that lethal force would often be used in such a situation.
