DERIDDER, Louisiana — The City Council is expected to vote on a proposed $14.3 million budget when it meets on Sept. 8.

The American Press reports ( ) the proposal is an increase of about $1.9 million over DeRidder's budget for the current fiscal year.

It forecasts a sharp increase in revenue — $8.4 million, compared with the $5.9 million envisioned in the current year.

Finance Director Ginny Brand attributes the revenue rise to an increase of nearly $2 million in government grants, including $1.2 million from the state for a new pool.

Slight increases in revenue are expected from city taxes, licenses, permits, fees and other sources.

Expenditures also would increase, with the biggest share going to the recreation department.
