DENHAM SPRINGS, Louisiana — Three people were killed in a head-on collision on New Year's Eve on a stretch of road in Livingston Parish that residents say is very dangerous.
State police say Trinity Kiger, 24, crossed the center line and crashed head-on into a sport-utility vehicle with a Denham Springs family inside. State police say Kiger, Shannon Chisholm, 37, and her daughter Hannah Chisholm, 11, died in the crash. The Advocate reports (http://bit.ly/1yfwRnI ) that Ronald Chisholm, 38, and his daughter Haley Chisholm, 14, were hospitalized.
The crash took place at about 8:15 p.m. Wednesday.
State police say the Chisholms were on their way home from a church function and taking a plate of food to a family friend when the crash happened.
State police were investigating the cause of the crash.
WBRZ-TV reports (http://bit.ly/1tHtOnd ) that residents who live on the stretch of road where the accident occurred say it is a very dangerous bit of highway, in particular because of a bend.
"A lot of families have made makeshift memorials, a lot of families drive by that curve and it brings bad memories for them," said Stephen Price, who grew up on this deadly curve. "I've seen way more wrecks, way more dead people, way more broken limbs, people trapped in cars right there in that curve than most people ever think about seeing."
He said something needs to be done to alert drivers about how dangerous it is.
WBRZ reports that last month another head-on collision killed two people along the same stretch of road.
