PUTNEY, Vermont — A search warrant issued at a Vermont holiday-themed park says 20 animals were seized from the property over concern about their health.

The Windham County Sheriff's office issued a news release earlier this week about removing at least some of the animals from Santa's Land in Putney. Lillian Billewicz, the owner, and Brian Deistler, property caretaker, pleaded not guilty to animal cruelty charges related to the alleged malnutrition and mistreatment of animals.

The Brattleboro Reformer reports ( the search warrant says Cpl. Melissa Martin made an unannounced visit to the park on Aug. 31 and found the animals living in dirty and unsafe conditions. Animals removed included goats, peacocks, donkeys, ponies, and an emu, a fallow deer, a pheasant, and a llama.
