Hudson Valley man admits to 2014 fatal stabbing of wife, will get 18 years at sentencing

GOSHEN, New York — A Hudson Valley man has admitted fatally stabbing his wife in 2014.

The Middletown Times Herald-Record reports (http://bit.ly/1KoSoBa ) 52-year-old Leonard Salters pleaded guilty to charges of second-degree murder Monday in Orange County Court.

Prosecutors say Salters fatally stabbed Junco Salters in the abdomen and torso on June 20, 2014 in the couple's home on Fort Putnam Street in Highland Falls. Officials say one of the blows pierced Salters' heart.

Police say responding officers observed a blood-soaked Leonard Salters flee the scene after a neighbor reported a struggle at the home.

Salters was apprehended after crashing his car on the Garden State Parkway in New Jersey. He was indicted by a grand jury in July 2014.

Salters will be sentenced to 18 years to life in prison on Nov. 2.
