KENYONVILLE, New York — Authorities say an Ohio man in western New York for a fishing trip has drowned in a river after he jumped off a bridge.

The Orleans County Sheriff's Office says a Cincinnati-area man his 60s approached teenage girls Thursday evening as they were jumping off a bridge over the Oak Orchard River in the hamlet of Kenyonville, 35 miles west of Rochester.

Police say he asked he could jump in, and after he did so he surfaced briefly before going under again. He didn't resurface.

Firefighters recovered his body about 8:45 p.m. He was pronounced dead at the scene. His body has been taken to the medical examiner's office in Rochester.

His identity is being withheld pending notification of relatives in Ohio.

The man was in the area for a three-day Lake Ontario fishing charter.
