SALT LAKE CITY — Three people have been charged with murder after a Helper man was found dead in the basement of a burning Price home last month.

Prosecutors Wednesday said James William Pendleton, Jr., Ashley Ann Platt and Michael John Dees were involved in the kidnapping and death of 32-year-old Brian William Swink. It's not immediately clear if they have attorneys.

Investigators believe the three kidnapped Swink on July 29 and locked him in Pendleton's basement.

Carbon County Attorney Gene Strate tells the Deseret News ( investigators believe Swink started the fire for unknown reasons.

Police say Pendleton called 911 to report the fire, saying he beat up the man locked inside the home.

Investigators say the house is known for drug activity. They say Swink and the three charged had long rap sheets.
