ANCHORAGE, Alaska — The Alaska National Guard rescued three people Friday who were stranded on the mudflats in Cook Inlet after their boat began to take on water.

The guard says in a release that the rescue happened about six miles southeast of Fire Island, just off Anchorage's coastline.

The three people were hoisted up into a waiting helicopter and delivered to an Anchorage hospital for evaluation. There was no immediate word on their condition.
