WORCESTER, Massachusetts — A Massachusetts man who deliberately hit another man with his SUV and dragged him to death after an argument has been sentenced to 15 to 20 years in prison.
The Telegram & Gazette reports (http://bit.ly/1Gr61Y2 ) that 35-year-old Matthew Padovano of Leominster was sentenced Friday in Worcester Superior Court after pleading guilty to a reduced charge of manslaughter.
Padovano had been charged with first-degree murder in the killing of 33-year-old David Szafarowicz of Auburn on Aug. 3, 2013, outside a Leominster bar. Prosecutors say Padovano struck Szafarowicz with his SUV on purpose and dragged him 40 to 50 feet, causing fatal injuries.
Authorities say the killing was prompted by a fight that started when Padovano's girlfriend's foot accidentally struck the sister of Szafarowicz's girlfriend in the face while dancing.
