Police: Western New York couple died in apparent murder-suicide at their rural home

SHELDON, New York — Authorities say a couple has been found dead in an apparent murder-suicide at their rural western New York home.

The Wyoming County Sheriff's Office says deputies conducted a welfare check Sunday night on 67-year-old Edson "Al" Barber and his 64-year-old wife Ellen at their home in the town of Sheldon, 25 miles east of Buffalo.

Deputies say each person had died from a single gunshot wound.

Officials say preliminary evidence indicates it was a murder-suicide. Autopsies have been ordered.

The investigation into the deaths is continuing.
