LAKE CHARLES, Louisiana — A contract worker has pleaded guilty to using a fraudulent facility access pass to try to gain entrance into a petrochemical plant in Sulphur.
U.S. Attorney Stephanie A. Finley said 32-year-old Cristobal Vargas Zambrano entered a conditional plea Thursday before U.S. Magistrate Judge Kathleen Kay to one count of fraudulent use or possession of an official pass.
Authorities say Zambrano used a fake transportation worker identification credential on Aug. 14 to try to get into Westlake Petrochemicals, a Transportation Security Act-regulated facility.
The plea will become final when accepted by U.S. District Judge Patricia Minaldi.
Zambrano faces up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine. Sentencing is set for June 29.
