STATESVILLE, North Carolina — A woman has been sentenced to at least 20 years in prison for running over and killing a runner while she was under the influence of drugs.

The Statesville Record and Landmark ( ) reports that Sylvia Sprinkle was convicted of second-degree murder and sentenced Wednesday, eight weeks after her trial started.

Prosecutors say Sprinkle was high on cocaine and several other drugs when she drove into a group of runners on state Highway 90 in Alexander County on Christmas Eve 2010.

Authorities say 44-year-old Robin Bowen was killed and a second runner injured.

The trial was moved to Iredell County from Alexander County.

Sprinkle's lawyer says she is very sorry about the wreck, but didn't want her to speak to the judge before sentencing because he plans an appeal.
