State police: Toddler killed, 3 injured in single-vehicle wreck in St. Landry Parish

SUNSET, Louisiana — State police say a two-year-old died and three others injured in a single-vehicle wreck in St. Landry Parish.

Master Trooper David Brooks said in a news release the accident happened shortly before 10 a.m. Sunday on Louisiana Highway 754 west of Sunset.

Brooks say car driven by Shaparia Citizen, of Church Point, ran off the road in a curve, crashed through a ditch and up an embankment before striking several trees.

Brooks says a two-year-old riding in a child seat in the back of the car suffered severe injuries and was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at Opelousas General Hospital.

Citizen and two other children suffered minor injuries in the crash.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
