DES MOINES, Iowa — The daughter of a man who was severely beaten and stuffed into his trunk last year before being rescued by police says he has died.

Des Moines television station KCCI reports ( ) that 61-year-old Ronald Carris died Wednesday in Minnesota. The station says Carris' daughter said he died from complications from the April 2014 attack.

Prosecutors say Debra Oliver and John Deering kidnapped Carris and beat him in the head with a brick because they wanted money. Carris called police from the trunk of the car, and officers used the cellphone signal to find him.

Both Oliver and Deering were sentenced to life in prison for the attack.

Polk County Attorney John Sarcone says new charges likely won't be filed, because the pair would not receive more jail time.
