MEDFORD, Oregon — Oregon State Police say a motorcycle rider was speeding Sunday when he passed a pickup truck, veered onto a gravel shoulder and crashed on Highway 234 near Gold Hill in Jackson County.

The Mail Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/1rvUHrC ) 31-year-old Nolan Rayce Ringulet of Lakeview died at the scene. He was not wearing a helmet.

Oregon State Police report 19 motorcycle fatalities this year so far, compared with nine last year.
