GONZALES, Louisiana — A special recall election will be held Dec. 6 in Gonzales where voters will decide the political fates of City Councilmen Gary Lacombe and Timothy Vessel.

The Advocate reports (http://bit.ly/1whgX7d ) Gov. Bobby Jindal set the election date Friday.

The Ascension Parish Registrar of Voters Office verified petitions on the two councilmen had the proper number of signatures for a recall election to be held.

If voters approve a recall, the public official has nine days to contest it. If the recall stands, voters will elect candidates to fill the seat until the term ends, which for Vessel and Lacombe's terms is Dec. 31, 2016.

Public officials recalled from office are prohibited from qualifying for the same office in the special election.
