FALL RIVER, Massachusetts — A Fairhaven woman has been sentenced to serve a year of a two-and-a-half-year jail sentence for a 2011 hit-and-run car accident that killed a woman and injured the woman's boyfriend.
Thirty-seven-year-old Renee Andrews also was sentenced Monday to five years' probation after she is released. Her driver's license is revoked for 15 years.
Andrews was convicted in May of motor vehicle homicide and other charges in the death of Katelyn Brienzo and injury to Ellery Reynolds.
The Standard-Times of New Bedford reports (http://bit.ly/1mO2RZj) that Brienzo's family wanted a longer sentence. Brienzo's father Dennis Brienzo asked, "Where is the justice there?" Family members said during victim impact statements they didn't feel Andrews has shown remorse.
Andrews' attorney Shane Carlson said the sentence was "appropriate." He had noted at her trial that she turned herself in to police.
