SANTA ANA, California — An Orange County woman is no longer facing criminal charges for accusations that she shackled her 10-year-old son and she's been reunified with her three children.

City News Service reports Monday that felony and misdemeanor counts against Irma Navarro alleging child abuse and endangerment were dropped by prosecutors Friday after she completed a court program that included child-rearing classes and monitoring by social workers.

Her attorney Douglas Potratz says she will return to court July 9 and her case is expected to be closed.

She was arrested last July after her son was found with a chain locked around his ankles. Authorities say Navarro appeared to be trying to keep him from joining a gang and chained the boy because he'd stay out after dark when she was working.
