ATLANTA — Federal prosecutors say a north Georgia man has been sentenced for distributing child pornography.

Authorities said Tuesday that 46-year-old Billy Gene McCorkle Jr. of Canton was sentenced to 17 years in prison.

Prosecutors say McCorkle communicated with an undercover Department of Homeland Security agent in November 2013 and agreed to send the agent child porn. Prosecutors say McCorkle, a registered sex offender, sent the agent a photo of a roughly 8-year-old girl and investigation uncovered that he had sent similar photo online in the past.

Prosecutors say when McCorkle was arrested, federal agents seized his cellphone and found more than 13,000 images of child pornography on it. McCorkle was convicted of child molestation in February of 2006.
