SHREVEPORT, Louisiana — Federal prosecutors say the owner and operator of a Shreveport intensive outpatient program company has pleaded guilty to charging Medicare for services never rendered.

U.S. Attorney Stephanie A. Finley said in a news release that 43-year old Sharon Monroe entered her plea Thursday before District Judge S. Maurice Hicks Jr. to one count each of health care fraud and wire fraud.

Finley says Monroe, owner of Monroe Medical Management LLC, submitted approximately $6 million in claims to Medicare for Part B psychotherapy services from 2007 to 2011, causing her to receive $2 million in improper payments from Medicare.

Monroe will be sentenced on Jan. 8.
