DALLAS — A broad mix of culinary creations, from fried Sriracha balls to chicken fried loaded baked potato, has made the cut as finalists for the State Fair of Texas Big Tex Choice Awards.
Fair officials in Dallas on Monday announced eight finalists for Best Taste and Most Creative new foods at the expo.
The competition will be held on Labor Day, Sept. 1. All finalists will be for sale during the State Fair of Texas, which runs from Sept. 26 to Oct. 19.
The Sriracha balls include shredded chicken and green chilies, while the fried potato will have "generous" amounts of butter, bacon and cheddar cheese.
Other finalists include the deep fried Texas bluebonnet (with blueberry muffin), fried Gulf shrimp boil, and a state fair brew tasting of funnel cake.
