LAFAYETTE, Louisiana — The applicants to be the next Lafayette Parish school superintendent include seven people in Louisiana, two from Texas, a Louisiana native currently working in New Jersey and an administrator from Wyoming.
The Advertiser reports (http://bit.ly/1BFvcUJ ) eleven applications were received by 3 p.m. Monday, when Interim Superintendent Burnell LeJeune broke the seals on the envelopes and read the names of each candidate.
Officials say there's still a chance that a couple more applications may trickle in, since they had to be postmarked, but not necessarily received, by March 27.
The school board hopes to name a superintendent sometime in May. The new leader will replace Pat Cooper, who was terminated in November. LeJeune was named interim superintendent shortly afterward. He plans to retire this summer.
