PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island — Providence police have arrested two men in connection with the shooting of a Massachusetts man near some nightclubs.

Police say 22-year-old Carlos Cruz of Dracut in northeastern Massachusetts was shot in the hand at about 2:30 a.m. Sunday and two suspects were arrested in a parking lot off Pine Street.

Authorities say both suspects, 22-year-old Dominic Hernandez and 27-year-old Nathan Jeter, are from Woonsocket, Rhode Island. They were charged with assault with a deadly weapon. It's not clear if they have lawyers.

Police say Hernandez and Jeter were trying to leave the scene in a BMW when they were arrested. Officers say they found a revolver with a scratched off serial number in the car.

Cruz was treated at Rhode Island Hospital.

It's not clear what sparked the shooting.
