TOWNSEND, Montana — The driver of a semi tractor-trailer has pleaded not guilty to negligent homicide for a fatal crash on U.S. Highway 12 east of East Helena.

KTVH-TV reports (http://bit.ly/1b8hOmp ) 33-year-old Asad Khan of Stockton, California, entered his plea Friday in District Court in Townsend in the death of 45-year-old Gregory McFerrin of Broadwater County.

The Montana Highway Patrol said Khan's eastbound semi veered into the westbound lane and collided head-on with McFerrin's pickup Monday night.

District Judge James Reynolds reduced Khan's bail from $200,000 to $100,000. Court officials say Khan, who is from Pakistan, must turn in his passport before being able to post bond. Reynolds scheduled a jury trial for Oct. 6.
