QUEBEC CITY — Hunter Smith broke a tie at 9:24 of the third period and the Oshawa Generals beat the Rimouski Oceanic 4-3 on Saturday night in the Memorial Cup opener for both teams.

Tobias Lindberg, Michael Dal Colle and Stephen Desrocher also scored for the Ontario Hockey League champion Generals. Tyler Boland, Alexis Loiseau and Jan Kostalek scored for the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League champion Oceanic.

In the first game of the four-team tournament, the host Quebec Remparts beat the Western Hockey League champion Kelowna Rockets 4-3 on Friday night. On Sunday, Oshawa will face Quebec. Rimouski will play Kelowna on Monday night.
