BISMARCK, North Dakota — Authorities have charged a Bismarck man who they say assaulted a woman and prevented her from calling 911.
The Bismarck Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/1v9Kc9P ) 31-year-old Jimmy Hatcher Jr. was charged Monday with aggravated assault and interfering with an emergency call. He could receive up to five years in prison on each felony charge if convicted.
Bismarck Police Sgt. Mark Buschena says police responded to the assault Sunday. The victim tells police Hatcher attacked her during an argument. She says Hatcher took a phone from her and smashed it when she tried to call 911.
Buschena says Hatcher chocked the woman while covering her mouth. He says witnesses reported hearing her yell for help.
Hatcher is being held in the Burleigh County jail. Online jail records didn't indicate an attorney.
