FRANKFORT, Kentucky — The air war in Kentucky's U.S. Senate race is heating up.

Democratic challenger Alison Lundergan Grimes' TV ad last week criticized Republican Sen. Mitch McConnell as a multimillionaire who has voted against raising the minimum wage. Tuesday, Republican Sen. Mitch McConnell responded with an ad calling Grimes "despicable" and noted most of McConnell's wealth came from an inheritance from his wife's deceased mother.

Media outlets have not been kind to either campaign's ads. Organizations including the Washington Post and Politifact have criticized both sides for a pair of ads earlier this summer about Medicare that included incorrect information.

Voters will get to see both candidates side by side in a televised debate on Kentucky Educational Television scheduled for Oct. 13.
