Mobile home fire claims lives of 2 children in Kentucky

OWENTON, Kentucky — Authorities say two children died in a mobile home fire in Owenton in north-central Kentucky.

Kentucky State Police officials say the children, ages 2 and 4, died inside the residence as a result of the Saturday morning fire.

The children have not yet been identified.

State police Trooper Josh Lawson says an adult in the trailer at the time of the fire was awakened by neighbors.

Lawson says the man exited the trailer through a window but was unable to re-enter to try to rescue the children because fire had engulfed the trailer.

Lawson says the children were in a bedroom at the other end of the trailer.

He says no criminal charges are pending at this time and no foul play is suspected. The investigation is continuing.
