HAYESVILLE, North Carolina — Authorities are investigating the death of an inmate at the Clay County jail in Hayesville.

The Asheville Citizen-Times reported (http://avlne.ws/1Ijbp0u) that 32-year-old Anthony L. Solary of Franklin was found dead in his cell earlier this week.

Sheriff Vic Davis said in a statement that Solary hanged himself.

The sheriff said Solary had been arrested Wednesday on charges of using fraudulent prescriptions to obtain drugs from a pharmacy. Davis said Solary was in a cell awaiting an appearance before a magistrate and a guard making rounds and delivering meals found him.

The sheriff said efforts to revive Solary failed.

An autopsy is planned.
