KALISPELL, Montana — A 34-year-old Whitefish man is denying charges that he fired a gun at two people on a motorcycle during a road rage incident near Columbia Falls.

The Flathead Beacon reports (http://bit.ly/YFCo7z ) Christopher Robert Showen pleaded not guilty Thursday to two counts of felony assault with a weapon.

District Judge Heidi Ulbricht maintained Showen's bail at $100,000, rejecting a request by defense attorney Brent Getty to reduce it to $25,000.

Prosecutors say a man and a woman who were riding a motorcycle on Aug. 2 reported a reckless driver passed them and made an obscene gesture. The bikers followed the car in order to get a license plate number. Charging documents allege Showen leaned out of the car and fired a handgun at the couple. No one was injured.
