STATESBORO, Georgia — Georgia Southern added 22 signees on Wednesday after losing 21 seniors from its Sun Belt Conference championship team.

The Eagles finished 9-3 overall in their inaugural season in the FBS, including a perfect 8-0 record in the Sun Belt. Georgia Southern wasn't eligible for a bowl bid in its first year of FBS.

The signing class includes Alabama-Birmingham transfer Roscoe Byrd. Because the UAB program was shut down, Byrd is eligible as a senior in 2015.

Coach Willie Fritz signed two players from The Bolles School in Jacksonville, Florida — tight end Kevin Ackerman and offensive guard Jeremiah Theus, the younger brother of Georgia offensive tackle John Theus and long snapper Nathan Theus.

Hampton McConnell of West Forsyth High is the only quarterback in the class.
