GRAND FORKS, North Dakota — Top-ranked North Dakota took a three-goal lead and held on to beat St. Cloud State 3-2 on Friday to remain in sole possession of first place in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference.

Brendan O'Donnell had a goal and an assist for UND, which improved to 20-0-1 when O'Donnell scores a goal.

North Dakota (23-6-3, 15-5-2) extended its unbeaten streak to six games and snapped a four-game home winless streak against St. Cloud State. It holds a three-point lead in the NCHC race with three games remaining.

O'Donnell and Nick Schmaltz scored in the first period for 2-0 lead. Connor Gaarder scored for UND in the second before Ben Storm's power play for the Huskies (15-15-1, 10-10-1) made it 3-1 after two periods.

Joey Benik also had a power-play goal for St. Cloud State, which had it three-game winning streak snapped.

North Dakota is 19-0-2 when leading after two periods.

Zane McIntyre made 22 saves for UND, while Charlie Lindberg made several acrobatic stops and 27 saves overall.
