GRANBURY, Texas — The Red Cross says nearly two-dozen North Texas homes have been damaged or destroyed by storms that brought heavy rains and flooding to the region.

Red Cross officials said Monday that nine homes in Hood County were rendered uninhabitable by flooding that began Sunday. They say an assessment of the area is not complete so additional damaged homes may be found.

About 16,000 homes and businesses lost power at the height of the storms, which dumped more than 7 inches of rain in Granbury and lingered in Dallas and Fort Worth on Monday.

Electric utility Oncor (ON'-kor) reported more than 8,000 outages in the DFW area. Other outages ranged north to Wichita Falls and south to Waco, which received more than 4 inches of rain Sunday.
