MADRID — Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema both injured their right legs and needed to be substituted during Real Madrid's 5-1 win over Sporting Gijon in the Spanish league on Sunday.
The pair of Madrid stars gingerly walked off the pitch. The club has yet to report on their injuries.
Bale scored Madrid's opener before he went down to the turf a minute before halftime, touching his right calf several times. He was substituted by Jese Rodriguez at the start of the second half.
The injury comes with the Wales winger in excellent form in the second match under new coach Zinedine Zidane. He has four goals under the orders of the former France great, having scored three times to lead a 5-0 rout of Deportivo La Coruna in Zidane's debut last week.
Benzema had scored two goals in the first half against Sporting before asking to be replaced in the 64th after teammate James Rodriguez accidently kicked him in the lower right leg. Benzema was replaced by Mateo Kovacic.
The France striker had also scored twice in Zidane's debut against Deportivo.
