NEWARK, New Jersey — Authorities say they have found no links connecting the fatal shootings of two men in Newark.

Essex County prosecutors say the first victim was found around 8:30 p.m. Monday, when city police responded to a shooting in the area of Avon Avenue and Stratford Place. They found an unresponsive man on the sidewalk who had been shot multiple times, and he was soon pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim's name has not been disclosed.

About 20 minutes later, 24-year-old Tawan Edwards was shot in the area of 193-197 Chancellor Avenue. Police responded there but were told Edwards had been driven to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead about an hour later.

Motives for the shootings have not been determined.
