Bengals missing LB Maualuga, RT Smith vs depleted Browns, who start Johnny Manziel at QB

CINCINNATI — Linebacker Rey Maualuga was inactive with an injured right calf Thursday night, and right tackle Andre Smith was out with a concussion for the unbeaten Bengals against the injury-depleted Cleveland Browns.

Linebacker Vontaze Burfict returned for a 16-10 win over Pittsburgh on Sunday, recovered from offseason knee surgery, and immediately assumed a big role when Maualuga got hurt on the opening drive.

The Browns gave Johnny Manziel his second start of the season with Josh McCown limited by bruised ribs. Manziel made his pro debut against the Bengals last December in Cincinnati's 30-0 victory.

The Browns already had announced that cornerback Joe Haden, safety Donte Whitner and receivers Brian Hartline and Andrew Hawkins would miss the game because of concussions.
