1 person killed and another injured in shooting at Raleigh parking lot


RALEIGH, North Carolina — One man has been killed and a second man injured in a shooting at a parking lot in Raleigh.

Raleigh police said in a statement that officers were called to a store parking lot shortly after 10:30 p.m. Thursday.

They found two men and took them to Duke University Hospital in Durham, where one of them died.

He's been identified as 39-year-old Jerry Eugene Sumpter of Durham.

Thirty-six-year-old Emil Emit Sherwood of Durham was hurt but his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

No arrests have been reported.
