Family of missing 81-year-old central NY man found Saturday says he died later that night

GERMAN, New York — Family members of an 81-year-old central New York man who was found alive after being missing for a week say he has passed away.

Relatives of Alfred Turshman of the Chenango County town of German tell the Press & Sun-Bulletin of Binghamton (http://press.sn/1LvhSNe ) that he died late Saturday night at a Binghamton-area Hospital.

State police say Turshman was found Saturday by troopers in a wooded area about a mile from his home. Police received a call around 10 a.m. from a resident whose dog had spotted a man in the woods who turned out to be Turshman.

State police in Sidney and the Chenango County Sheriff's Office said Sunday that they were unaware of Turshman's death.

Turshman, who suffered from dementia, was reported missing Aug. 15.
