Baton Rouge General to eliminate up to 60 jobs over next 3 months

BATON ROUGE, Louisiana — Baton Rouge General will eliminate up to 60 administrative and support workers over the next three months as the hospital adjusts to the closure of its Mid City emergency room and changing patient volumes.

The Advocate reports (http://bit.ly/1JYApfh ) affected workers were notified Thursday. They'll also receive 30 to 60 days of severance pay.

President and Chief Executive Officer Mark Slyter, in a statement, said although the layoffs are the right move, he regrets the impact it will have on employees.

The hospital says it plans to transfer some workers to other positions so the total number of layoffs will be lower than the number of jobs eliminated. Slyter says the people who work directly at the bedside will not be affected, but those in administrative, corporate and support services will.
