BURLINGTON, Vermont — A Vermont man serving a life-without-parole sentence for the kidnapping, sexual assault and killing of his niece is headed to a prison in Arizona that has a high percentage of sex offenders.

Lawyers for Michael Jacques had asked the judge who sentenced Jacques last month to recommend that he serve his time at the high security prison in Tucson.

Jacques pleaded guilty last year to charges stemming from the 2008 of killing his 12-year-old niece Brooke Bennett in Randolph.

Jacques' attorney had argued that his life would be in danger at a regular prison because given his crime, Jacques would not be tolerated by fellow inmates.

A judge declined to make the recommendation, but the Burlington Free Press ( ) reports Jacques was sent to Arizona in the last few days.
