Utah's jobless rate increased slightly in August to 3.7 percent


SALT LAKE CITY — Utah's unemployment rate inched up last month to 3.7 percent.

The August rate released by Utah's Department of Workforce Services on Friday is one-tenth of a percent higher than a month earlier.

While Utah's jobless rate climbed in August, the national rate dropped to 5.1 percent.

The national unemployment rate had been at 5.3 percent in July.

The Workforce Services department says Utah had 52,800 more jobs last month than it did in August last year.
