PIERRE, South Dakota — Gov. Dennis Daugaard has appointed John Bastian to the state Board of Regents.

Daugaard made the announcement on Monday.

Bastian is an Aberdeen native. He retired in 2013 after serving for 20 years as a circuit court judge in Belle Fourche. Prior to that service, Bastian spent nearly 10 years in the attorney general's office.

Bastian is a graduate of South Dakota State University and Hamline University School of Law. He also is a United States Air Force veteran.

Daugaard says Bastian "will be a strong addition" to the nine-member board that oversees the state university system.
