SOUTHOLD, New York — Residents of Long Island's North Fork want the FAA to do something about the noise from helicopters that take passengers to the Hamptons.
A hearing is scheduled Monday evening in Southold.
The vice president of the Eastern Region Helicopter Council says being forced to go around Orient Point would add another 60 miles to a trip. Jeffrey Smith says that would put an "unbelievable burden" on small operators.
FAA spokesman Jim Peters says several staff members will attend the meeting. He declined to comment further.
