SYRACUSE, New York — A central New York man has been accused of causing the death of an 18-month-old child.
Syracuse police say 28-year-old Kendell Cooper was the only person with Azaleyah Johnson on Saturday when she suffered fatal injuries investigators say were caused by blunt force.
Cooper was caring for the child, his girlfriend's daughter when she was injured. Police continue to investigate the circumstances.
Police called by relatives found the girl unconscious. She was pronounced dead at a hospital.
Cooper was charged Wednesday with first-degree manslaughter. It wasn't initially known if he has a lawyer.
