Ingalls Shipbuilding to christen 6th US Coast Guard national security cutter on Saturday

PASCAGOULA, Mississippi — Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula is preparing to christen its sixth U.S. Coast Guard national security cutter, the Munro.

The Mississippi Press reports (http://bit.ly/1Sib7xz ) that U.S. Coast Guard Commandant Adm. Paul Zukunft is the keynote speaker for the ceremony at 10 a.m. Saturday. Julie Sheehan, great-niece of ship namesake Douglas Munro, is the ship sponsor.

Munro is the only member of the United States Coast Guard to have been awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor, the nation's highest military decoration.

A USCG signalman, Munro died in combat on Sept. 27, 1942, on Guadalcanal in the Solomon Islands of the south Pacific.
