Investigation under way after discovery of body in south Phoenix

PHOENIX — Police are investigating a body being found in a south Phoenix canal.

KNXV-TV in Phoenix reports (http://bit.ly/1dOdji4) that firefighters are at the scene near 16th Street and Baseline since 5:15 a.m.

According to the Phoenix Fire Department, a passer-by jogging along the canal spotted the body and called 911.

Firefighters initially were prepared to do a water rescue but then reclassified it as a recovery of a body.

Firefighters have since turned over the scene to police.

No other details have been released.
